Identification of potential livestock commodities is expected to see the differences in potential livestock resource in each districts in Tarakan City. The purpose of this study was to determine the distribution of (featured) base commodities in each subdistricts and determine the availability of food from livestock in Tarakan City.
The Survey method was used in this study. The sampling technique is done by deliberately (purposive sampling) with certain considerations. The Analysis used in this study are descriptive analysis. Furthermore, to determine the potential of livestock commodities in each district in Tarakan City done with Location Quotient (LQ) analysis and Coefficient of Specialization (β).
From the analysis of economic's base diversity, food commodity from livestock which has potential to develop in Tarakan City are; (1) Egg-laying hens, with the highest LQ value (5,21) in North Tarakan subdistrict, (2) Goat, with LQ value 3,49 in Middle Tarakan Subdistrict, (3) Buffalo, with LQ value 2,88 in North Tarakan Subdistrict, and (4) Duck, with LQ value 2,35 in Middle Tarakan subdistrict. While based on the coefficient of specialization, the area of food production from livestock approaching area specialization with the value of β=0,78 is West Tarakan subdistrict with free-range chicken commodities.
